A bond of Rs. 50,000 with a pledge not to pose a threat to peace; Student leader Neha Bora also released after overnight detention
New Delhi, October 17 (Agencies)
Court Decision
A Delhi court granted conditional bail today to Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke. The court directed him to submit a bond of Rs. 50,000 and pledge that he will not pose a threat to peace. Following the approval of his bail, he was released from the Mandir Marg Police Station.
Dipke had been detained yesterday ahead of the "Lehra Do Tiranga" (Hoist the Tricolour) march in Connaught Place, following which his formal arrest was recorded.
Neha Bora Also Released
All India Students Association (AISA) President Neha Bora was also detained yesterday. She was kept in custody overnight and released in the morning after legal formalities were completed.
Police Stance
According to the police, Neha Bora and Abhijeet Dipke were taken into preventive detention while they were heading to participate in the "Lehra Do Tiranga" march. This march was being organized to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Protest Despite Detention
Despite the detention of both leaders, the "Lehra Do Tiranga" protest was organized in the Connaught Place area, with a large number of students and youths participating.
Two CJP Leaders in Judicial Custody
CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Sourabh Das have been in judicial custody since hoisting the tricolour at Jantar Mantar. It is worth noting that Jantar Mantar was de-notified from the list of protest venues last week.
Dipke's Unique Reaction
In his first reaction on X (formerly Twitter) after his release, Abhijeet Dipke posted a scene featuring Shah Rukh Khan from the movie "Veer-Zaara," where tears roll down his eyes upon release from jail after 22 years. Dipke wrote that being released from jail after spending 24 hours without Wi-Fi and a phone feels just like that.
According to reports, after his release, Dipke visited the residence of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) spokesperson Anish Gawande.
Neha Bora Criticizes Government and Police
Following her release, Neha Bora lashed out at the Delhi Police and the central government. According to her:
The action of taking them into custody was illegal.
The controversial SIR process in the country should be terminated.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar should resign and be sent to jail.
