Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon increase in intensity
The Israeli air force has continued its airstrikes on civilian areas in Lebanon, hitting several buildings without warning. According to Arab News, residents were given just three hours to evacuate before 13 airstrikes were launched in the southern suburbs of Beirut. No casualties were reported in the attacks, but residential buildings, schools and hospitals were damaged. The continued Israeli attacks have dashed hopes of a ceasefire. Israel’s Channel 14 reported that “the Israeli army is expanding its attacks to more areas after the ground operations.” It has been 50 days since Israel claimed to have targeted Hezbollah in Lebanon, during which time 3,200 people have been killed and more than 14,000 injured. The southern suburbs of Beirut were bombed for the first time in the morning, causing widespread destruction. Israeli warplanes targeted Ta’er, Hermel and other areas, killing and wounding many. Fourteen bodies were recovered after an Israeli airstrike on the Ain Yacoub area of northern Lebanon, including members of a Syrian family. The other dead were identified as displaced residents of southern Lebanon. The condition of 10 injured in the attack is also said to be critical.
