*If Only Caliphate Could Be Like This...!!*
When Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (RA) came to the Bait-ul-Mal (Treasury) after assuming the Caliphate, he asked the people:
"What did Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) used to do?"
The people replied:
"After finishing his prayers, he used to take a small amount of food and head out in a certain direction...!"
He asked, "Where did he use to go?"
The people said, "We do not know that, he just used to leave in that direction...!"
Hazrat Umar (RA) took some food and set off in that direction. Asking people along the way about where Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) used to go, he eventually reached a hut. Going inside, he saw an old man who was blind in both eyes and had sores/paralysis on his face. When the old man heard the sound of someone approaching, he spoke in deep anger: "Where had you gone for the last three days...?"
Hazrat Umar (RA) remained silent and began feeding him. The old man said angrily:
"What is the matter? Firstly, you come after three days, and now you have even forgotten the way of feeding...?"
When Hazrat Umar (RA) heard this, he began to weep and told him:
"I am Umar, and the one who used to feed you was the Caliph of Muslims, Abu Bakr (RA), and he has passed away...!"
When the old man heard this, he stood up and said:
"O Umar! Guide me to recite the Kalimah and accept Islam. For the last two years, that man came to me every day and fed me, but not even for a single day did he tell me who he was...!"
The old man further shared that he (Hazrat Abu Bakr) used to soften the morsel of bread with his own mouth before feeding it to him.
