Protests Erupt on Israeli Streets Following Election Results: Netanyahu's Residence Surrounded, Crowds Demand 'Jewish-Arab' Joint Government

As vote counting concluded in Israel, political upheaval intensified across the country. In the 120-member parliament (Knesset), 61 seats are required to form a majority government, but no coalition managed to touch this magic number. Following the deadlock, thousands of protesters took to the streets on Thursday.

Netanyahu's Residence Surrounded

Demonstrators surrounded Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence, demanding his immediate resignation.

Protesters chanted slogans calling for an immediate end to the Gaza war.

Key major roads were blockaded, Netanyahu's election posters were trampled, and sharp clashes broke out with the police.

The crowd is not only demanding Netanyahu's removal, but is also pressuring the opposition to form a joint Jewish-Arab government alongside Arab-led parties.

Demonstrations Outside Opposition Leader's Home

A strong demonstration also took place outside the residence of former army chief Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the main opposition alliance. Protesters held placards reading, "Arabs and Jews, Only Together We Win." Amir Badran, Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, joined the rally and urged the opposition to align with Arab parties. The crowd chanted against far-right leader Itamar Ben-Gvir, declaring "Ben-Gvir has lost," and called for a shared democracy over racial division.

Where Things Stand After 100% Vote Count

Netanyahu's Right-Wing Block: 53 seats

Eisenkot's Opposition Block: 48 seats

Arab Parties (Kingmakers): Record 19 seats

If the opposition aims to block Netanyahu from forming a government, it must secure the support of the 19 Arab lawmakers. However, opposition leaders fear that such a move could alienate their traditional voter base.
