Mock Parliament at Kharge's Residence After Venue Refusal: INDIA Block's Symbolic 'Impeachment' Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

The opposition alliance, INDIA block, has intensified its political campaign against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. After being denied permission at public venues, the opposition has decided to hold a 'Mock Parliament' on Friday at the 10, Rajaji Marg residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

How Will the Proceedings Function?

The session will begin at 3:30 PM.

A symbolic 'impeachment' motion against the CEC will be introduced during the session.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will preside over the entire proceedings.

Kharge will initially move the resolution, following which other leaders will participate in the debate.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will deliver the valedictory address.

Permission Denied for Hotel and Ramlila Maidan

The opposition alleges that permission for this session was denied first at the Ashoka Hotel and later at Ramlila Maidan. Congress leaders claim the government is attempting to stall their political movement. However, the opposition is preparing for a major protest rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1.

Former Judges Decline Participation

The initial plan involved inviting former Supreme Court judges and senior legal luminaries. According to a senior Congress leader, at least five former judges declined to participate in the event.

Voters Omitted from Electoral Rolls to Take the Stage

The session will feature not only opposition MPs, but also members of civil society, student leaders, and ordinary voters whose names were allegedly removed from the electoral rolls during the SIR drive. They will share their firsthand experiences directly from the stage.

Opposition Charges and Demands

The opposition accuses the Chief Election Commissioner of undermining electoral rules and democratic safeguards. Opposition parties have previously met President Droupadi Murmu to demand his removal from office and the repeal of the 2023 Election Commissioner Protection Act.
